The research group SPECS at the University Pompeu Fabra took on the challenge to develop and implement applications that optimize the acquisition, storage and presentation of data that represents key aspects of historical relevance such as the holocaust, including its archaeological, social, cultural, psychological, medical aspects.
For the reconstruction of Bergen Belsen, SPECS and its director, ICREA prof. Paul Verschure, work in close collaboration with the Bergen-Belsen Memorial/Lower Saxony Memorials in Germany and in particular with Habbo Knoch who was the director of the memorial site foundation until 2014 and now has a chair at Koln University.
The work on the 3D reconstruction, the installations in Bergen Belsen and the tablet application were initially developed within the framework of the European project CEEDS (FP7, ICT Future and Emerging Technologies, 258749-CEEDS).
